When you look out your windows, does it feel like you’re looking through a fog? In some homes you will see a distinct fogginess in the windows, sometimes so serious that it looks like they have been painted with a semi-transparent white paint. This is a sign that the seal on their double-pane windows has failed, and moisture is building up between the panes.
Double-pane windows have a sealed cavity between the panes that contains a gas to insulate. The problem is that windows that are exposed to the sun constantly expands and contracts – causing strain on the silicone seal that keeps the gas in.
There is no simple fix to this, and while it is possible to reseal the window and replace the gas, you are not going to achieve the same efficiency that the windows had prior. If you want that, you will need to replace the windows, which can be quite costly.
