It can be challenging enough to drill a small hole into a tile in order to hang something, but some projects require a much bigger space in the tile. Though this may sound like a much bigger challenge, especially as contractors usually use expensive saws for such a task, it is still very possible to do it yourself with the right method and tools.
Start by drawing an outline for the hole on the tile with a felt pen or pencil. Then use a short masonry drill bit to drill closely-spaced holes along the shape. Then take a hammer and very lightly tap the tile inside the outline, along the shape. Be patient and stay gentle, it can take a few minutes before the inner shape breaks free. The edge may be rough, especially if the shape is round, but you can gently file it down or cover it up, depending on the needed result.
